Yesterday at a medical appointment, 💉the medic asked what I do.
I told her I'm a writer. 📗🖊📓✒️📙🖋📘📝📔✒️📕🖍📚
👷🏻♀️Published my first book a year ago. She asked all about the historical and the psychological aspects in the story.
Her interest was such, I offered her a book. 📗📖
She Goo-ed and Garr-ed, asking me to sign it. Telling me she will put it in the reception area when she has completed it. And promote me. ‼️
Two other patients were waiting. She introduced me, exclaiming about my being a local author. How could I not offer them both complimentary copies? Signed of course.
One asked for a photograph, 👩👩👦
Another said I'd made her day. 😍
Her husband offered me pickles in exchange. 🌶🌶🌶🌶
I left the medical centre feeling wonderful. 😻
My publishing marketing guy had told me to give away as many as I can afford; spread the book and good feeling around, considering this is a series. Sales will follow.
I'm beginning to believe him.

I take books with me when I travel. Some hotels have tiny libraries in their lobbies. When they do, I sign a copy and leave it there. In others, I leave a signed copy of one of my first in series in the nightstand next to the Gideon's Bible. You never know where your next super fan reader will come from. 🙂
Excellent idea Jamie, I didn't think about the bedside table. I left one in a holiday apartment last week, with the books on the bookshelf. It's like giving a gift, secretly. Nice feeling.
Thank you for sharing this.
I love this story, and I love, "Her husband offered me pickles in exchange." This is amazing.
Do you give books away?
Do you write to give pleasure or to make money, or both?
